The Derby Stud completed this final step when Selene was bred to Triple When Selene was crossed with Gainsborough to produce Hyperion, it was the Galopin-St. Simon blood that was reinforced. Selene has two crosses of Galopin in her pedigree through St. Simon and a daughter, which produced Minoru's dam. Gainsborough provided additional strains of Galopin through St. Simon's son St. Frusquin, Bayardo's dam Galicia, and Black Duchess's sire Galliard. As has been shown in this series, the best way to upgrade a pedigree or When Selene was bred to Phalaris to produce the full brothers Sickle and
Pharamond 2nd, reinforcement of two important parts of her pedigree
took place. The brothers are inbred 4x3 to St. Simon. They are also inbred
3x4 to Cyllene who sired the Derby winners Cicero 1905, Minoru 1909, Lemberg
1910, and Tagalie 1912. Cyllene became the best sire of his time before he
was exported to Argentina. Hyperion won the Derby and St. Leger and went on to become leading sire
six times and leading broodmare sire twice. Sickle by Phalaris-Selene was to
found the Native Dancer male line, which with the advent of Raise a Native,
Mr. Prospector, Fappiano, and Alydar has become the dominant male line in
North America. Pharamond 2nd is the great grandsire of Buckpasser. Hunter's
Moon by Hurry On-Selene was exported to Argentina where he became a leading
sire. Sir Tristram carried Selene's influence to Australia and New Zealand.
Selene is the 4th dam of leading sire Sir Tristram who is linebred to her as
his sire, Sir Gaylord has a 2nd dam by Pharamond 2nd. Selene has had a great
impact on pedigrees on four continents, Europe, North America, South America,
and Australia.
