STATUE OF LIBERTY JOINS BLUE GUM ROSTER

A service fee of $8,800 has been set for Statue Of Liberty (USA), who will this season be replacing Encosta de Lago at Blue Gum Farm. "He is a highly performed horse who has a wonderful pedigree and is a great-looker," says Blue Gum's Philip Campbell of Statue Of Liberty, who was a $US1.3 million yearling purchase by Coolmore's John Magnier and close associate Michael Tabor.

By the exceptionally successful sire Storm Cat from the Seattle Slew mare Charming Lassie, who is half-sister to the high-class performer Wolfhound, who was the Champion Older Sprinter of Europe in 1993. Four years before Statue Of Liberty arrived Charming Lassie gained fame by producing Lemon Drop, who was United States Champion Older Horse in 2000.
A winner of seven races Lemon Drop Kid's victories featured the Belmont Stakes, Futurity Stakes, Travers Stakes, Whitney Handicap and Woodward Stakes at the highest level.
