Standing URGENT REQUEST (IRE) -
(Emirates Park to Eldon Park Stud) By the international
champion and sire RAINBOW QUEST out of OSCURA by another champion CARO.
Urgent Request was a brilliant front running miler on turf, stakes
winner/placegetter in three continents including Group 1 SANTA ANITA HANDICAP
(record time), OAK TREE BREEDERS CUP HANDICAP on turf (world record time). Victoria’s Eldon Park Stud proudly announce King De Lago as
their new 2005 freshman stallion. This impressive son of Champion Australian
sire Encosta De Lago joins Portland Pirate, Made of Gold, Urgent Request and
Curata Storm on the Eldon Park stallion roster. King De
Lago was the top priced Encosta De Lago yearling at the 2003 Gold Coast Magic
Millions and it was a blow to the hopes of trainer and part owner Lee
Freedman when he was prematurely retired from racing with a paddock injury.
Considering the rap on him as an early 2yo, Freedman may well have had a male
equivalent to his multiple Group winning Alinghi who came from the same 2001
crop. King De
Lago is out of the multiple winning Rancher mare, Ranch Lady. She is a
half-sister to Gr. 3 winning sprinter Deposition, Listed winner Accuse and
Hong Kong warrior Danzighill (SP and winner of nine). This is also the family
of iron horse Ball Park (multiple Gr.1 winner) and speedy mare Danabaa (Gr.2
winner). Apart from King De Lago, Ranch Lady has also produced Gr.3 winner
Ventura and the talented Poetic Gem. King De
Lago’s male line needs little introduction with Encosta De Lago siring 328 to
race for 208 winners (63.4% winners to runners) with 18 individual stakes
winners and 23 stakes placegetters inc. ALINGHI, LASHED, TITANIC JACK, DELAGO
BROM, VOCABULARY, DELZAO, CHONG TONG, GOLD LOTTEY, BESAME MUCHO, CAHUITA,
EMLOZZA, MNEMOSYNE etc. Last year Encosta De Lago was the runner up to the
legendary Danehill on the General Australian Sires Table and is currently
leading the Australian Sires Table by number of wins this season. With only
Delago Brom, Tuscanos and Lago Delight currently standing, Encosta De Lago’s
reputation as a sire of sires is further enhanced with King De Lago’s
introduction to stud. King De
Lago has matured into a striking 16.2hh chestnut stallion. His natural
athleticism, exceptional temperament and great conformation leave breeders in
the sub $10k area with plenty to think about. Additionally, for those
focussed on type, King De Lago presents superbly and is a genuine “look and
book” stallion. He will stand at Eldon Park Stud on the picturesque
Mornington Peninsula for a service fee of $4,400 inc gst which may well prove
to be the best value freshman fee since 1997 when Encosta De Lago stood for
$8,500. King De
Lago will have a limited 1st season book. Home |
