Winners From The Blue

This website is all about the way different breeds race, their attitudes, weaknesses ,strengths and the various traits they tend to inherit. Northern Dancer line is the main focus but this page is dedicated to the other influential sires right now. One of these sires is Celtic Swing and he interests me a great deal. His progeny seem to be able to string a good number of wins together once they get going.

CELTIC SWING

When I first got into breeding way back when the champion Kingston Town was bred by David Hains. I was a young boy of fifteen and I didn’t fully understand how this breeding of thoroughbreds worked but the interest was to stay with me until the present time. I came to understand that certain breeds loved wet tracks others loved racing fresh. Then there are the breeds that can’t get beyond a certain distance even if one side was bred to stay two miles. This is why I really believe that Kingston Town was a true champion. The great sire Bletchingly rarely produced a horse that could get 2000m. Kingston Town was the only one to get 3200m and I don’t mean his Sydney cup win .His second in the Melbourne cup for me was his finest performance. It took a genius ride by Mick Dittman on Gurners Lane to spoil the party. Gurners Lane was by the mighty Sir Tristram who always produced the most talented of stayers much like his son Zabeel does today.

Looking at champions today like Makybe Diva. A super mare, yes I would call her a champion mare mainly because she is virtually unbeatable beyond 2000m. Silent Witness yes I would put him down as a champion any horse that can win 17 straight must be something special but again he has never raced beyond 1400m and being by El Moxie he is probably going to struggle to get beyond 1600m. Anyway the point I’m trying to make is that certain breeds just cannot win under specific conditions.

My intention is to hopefully inform punters and people who just love the thoroughbred racing industry some traits I have noticed over the past years. Here’s just a couple to start with Century , his sons  Rubiton and others prefer racing fresh. These are some of the top wet track sires of the past twenty years Toy Pindarri  ,Palace Music , Twig Moss , Brigand, Keepers and Aurilandy even though there progeny are nearing or have left the racetracks you will still find that broodmares by these sires still crop up and the breed still perform on wet tracks.
